Reflections in Metal

The first image shows the Nobel Peace centre by Aker Brygge, Oslo. The second shot is a doble reflection from an antiques shop in Greenwich, London.

Choosing a high or a low viewpoint

After capturing the first shot I wondered if the scene would look better from a lower angle. Even if the silhouette of the man is easy to interpret in both pictures I ended up with the first shot as my favourite. You see more of the boats on the left, and his head still goes clear of the horizon.

Reflections in Cars

It is fun to capture reflections in car windows and bonnets. If two planes are at an angle with each other you can capture two different versions of the same subject in the same image.

City Speedscapes

The inspiration for these images came from the photographer Finn Krogvig who visited Oslo Kamera Klubb.

Zebra Crossing

These are two images from the same location. The top image with the reflected house is turned upside down to give the impression that the zebra crossing extends across both images.

Yay! Came in 2nd yesterday!

I came in 2nd yesterday in the "Picture of the week" competition in OSLO KAMERA KLUBB.

Drawing the Eye - new e-book from David duChemin out now for $5

David duChemins latest e-book is released and you can buy it HERE.

Numbering standards when downloading pictures from your camera

I had a question about this the other day when a friend tried to download her pictures from the cameras memory card onto the computer. She received a message that the image already existed, and would she like to overwrite it?

Before and After

Waiting for the bus I discovered a stripe of light behind me. The light cast a shadow on the ground. I selected a slow shutter speed of 1/30 seconds to blur out the background and the left shot was the result.
After preparing this image for black & white, I used a split toning effect with a preset. It is sort of black & white but with a tint.

Beach Hut Triptych

Had a relatively hot day in Oslo yesterday so I felt like looking through some of my summer images. These shots were taken on an earlier mentioned photo walk with OSLO KAMERA KLUBB.

I bent my knees slightly so that the railing would cover the horizon line. This is a set of three images. To create a triptych in Photoshop, click HERE.

Shoe Lounge - ladies' shoe shop in Oslo

Shoe Lounge is releasing their new web pages on monday. I have helped them out with some product shots. This picture shows how their web designer integrated my picture of the red shoes on their front page. Visit Shoe Lounge.

The Buddha Obsession

When I look through my files I have to smile at how many different angles and times of day I have managed to capture this Buddha.

Autumn Colours

Just a grab shot on my way back from work yesterday. I love how the green bicycle blends in with the grass and the red Ivy.

Oslo Town Hall Reflection

Photographing people when they are reflected in puddles is a fun exercise, although sometimes you are caught!

Texture and Stone

Every week we have an informal mini-competition in Oslo Kamera Klubb. Yesterday I came in third with this shot of a car hood.

Repeating Objects

One thing to look for when composing pictures is repeating objects. I discovered the lady in the painting inside the window and waited patiently until I could also include the reflection of the woman passing behind me, and also her shadow.

Vignette or not

We cycled out to our local beach today, which of course is not very crowded this time of year, temperatures being just above the freezing point.

Everything in fur

I passed this shop one evening, as the owner was about to close. He was standing outside and the puppies were eager to join him in going home.

Lighthouse and Ferry

From Bygdøy, Oslo. The ferry from Nesodden passes on its way back to Aker Brygge.

Leaving Haugesund in the rain and arriving in Oslo to a water leakage in the train station.

Yay! "My" WTF videos are on Youtube!

I've mentioned before that two of my photos has been discussed on the Within the Frame podcasts.
It felt a bit surreal seeing my picture on the "cover" of the WTF video on YouTube :-)

Oooooh.... Imbalance!

I'll admit, this is a picture I am a bit reluctant to show you but it helps pointing out the one single composition rule that is most important to me.
The rule of compositional balance. To me, there are two objects with weight in this picture. The first is the three soldiers. The second is the drainpipe. Can you see how it creates imbalance to have them both on the same side of the picture?

Breaking the rule of... Walking into the frame

Usually you would allow space in front of people, let them walk into the frame. Sometimes it is okay to break this rule. For example when you want the viewers eye to be led past the person and into the frame. But to break the rule you have to learn it first :-)

I went to an exhibition opening at StatoilHydro's offices at Vækerø two days ago to see "Photography Matters" - The Helsinki School.

I was a bit early so I walked down towards the beach next to their offices. So did several other people. And I got this shot.
It was getting dark, but still an hour left until sunset so the sea was bright but the foreground was not.

Increasing the contrast in Photoshop made the foreground even darker. I dodged the foreground to get some details back into it.

The photographer who fascinated me the most at the exhibition was Susanna Majuri. The picture below is called "Saviour". I can't figure out what is going on but i guess she either is diving in and there is a picture of a house lying on the bottom of the pool or that the picture is an underwater shot and she is actually coming out of the water. Judging from her portfolio I assume the first. What do you think?

Here is a link to her Portfolio.
